Public meetings in Dunedin, Wānaka, Cromwell show level of concern

Over the last few weeks, a series of public meetings have taken place in Dunedin, Wānaka and Cromwell. They have been very well attended, and we’ve had great feedback, with people leaving the meetings feeling much better informed (and appropriately concerned) about the issues and risks associated with the mine project.

In Dunedin, approximately 75 people came together a short notice to discuss concerns about the fast track gold mine. In Wānaka, the venue was packed on a cold winter’s night with close to 200 people. In Cromwell, 150 people gathered in the local church hall to find out more.

At each venue, we had a line up of speakers, including our own people from Sustainable Tarras, plus scientists, academics, fast-track experts, ecologists, archaeologists/historians and experts in business and tourism.

We are now working at consolidating some of this information to be shared more widely. Watch this space.

In the meantime, what can you do? We know that this all feels a bit overhwelming for some people. Well, we’ve put some suggestions together on this page. There are ideas which will take you a couple of minutes, through to more substantial actions.

Thank you to all of those who took part, those who attended, and those who contributed in other ways.
