Donate to the fight against an airport and a goldmine at Tarras

Santana Minerals is planning one of a series of open case goldmines in the Dunstan Mountains – if it goes ahead it will be one of the largest goldmines in the Southern Hemisphere. Once again we’re up against a heavy hitting corporate with deep pockets. We need to be able to fund experts to fully understand the economic, environmental and social impacts of the mine, plus get to grips with the untested Fast Track Approvals Act. We are fighting this hard.

Christchurch Airport is planning an international jet-capable airport in Tarras – as large as Christchurch Airport itself. Our household surveys show that three out of four local people are against it. We’ve produced videos explaining the hazards of this proposal, set up this website, run a Facebook page, organised local meetings and engaged with local and central government.

We’re small, and Christchurch Airport and Santana Minerals are large developers. These fights are complicated. We need experts to gather evidence on the impacts to the existing economy, to the environment – especially water and to understand the direct and indirect implications for locally, regionally and nationally. We will also need legal assistance.
