Limits to sustainable tourism

We must define the number of visitors an area can sustainably tolerate without damaging its environment or culture.

  • 72% of tourism’s CO2 emissions come from transportation, mostly from aviation
  • Tourists are advised “you definitely want a car to get around New Zealand; public transport is time-consuming and can be expensive”.
  • A new airport will require major car and van rental facilities, and extensive improvements to roads and bridges. Two of the three state highways leading to Tarras depend on one-way bridges, often closed for repairs.

We need more sustainable tourism.

High value, low impact, letting tourists have the best possible time while respecting our culture and environment
