Say NO to the Mine

Please do whatever you can to help oppose the Central Otago Gold Mine at Bendigo. Below are a handful of easy ways you can help, along with an indication of how long each will take. Every minute you spend helping to spread the word will make a difference.

JOIN THE LIST OF PEOPLE SAYING “NO!”. (1 min)

Join the growing list of people from all over Aotearoa New Zealand who are opposed to this gold mine. It’s quick and easy – you’ll be signed up immediately.

SHARE WITH YOUR NETWORKS ON SOCIAL MEDIA (2 mins)

Share this page, or follow us on Facebook or on Instagram and share one of our recent posts about the goldmine. The more people who find out about what’s planned, the more opposition we can build. At the moment, the Government and the mining company involved are getting away with sharing scant information and cherry-picking what they tell the media.

We’ve produced videos to help people understand what’s coming – with as much information as we currently have.

TELL YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS – WE BET THEY DON’T KNOW YET! (3 mins)

Let them know what’s happening. If they’re concerned, help them sign up (see above) to voice their opposition. Show them the videos (see above). We know from independent research that around 85% of New Zealanders want to do the right thing by the environment.

IF YOU CAN, CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FIGHTING FUND – EVERY CONTRIBUTION HELPS! (4 mins)

We are a small organisation, funded by donations. Help us here.

WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR (10 mins)

This is a great way to raise awareness and to do something practical which will 1) reach a lot of other people and 2) be noticed by politicians and the mining industry.

Write a short letter explaining why you think the mine is a bad idea. Check out this page for inspiration. Or use some of the information in one of our recent Facebook posts and adapt it for your letter.
